按成文标准的深度
没有单一"正确"的覆盖物深度。正确答案取决于覆盖物要做什么，而每个主要用例都有一份成文标准。在规格或 HOA 申请里引用标准，就能消除多数争议。

为什么 3 inches 是观赏花坛的标准
Cornell Cooperative Extension 和 Penn State Extension guidance 在 2–4 inch 范围内一致，典型推荐 3 inches。理由建立在三种可测效应之上。
- 遮光。多数杂草种子需要 1–3 个光子的红光触发萌发。3 inches 有机覆盖物把入射阳光的传播率压到 0.01% 以下到土壤表面。
- 根系呼吸。超过 4 inches，氧气向喂养根的扩散降到裸土速率的 60% 以下 —— 厌氧条件开始，Phytophthora 成为风险。
Royal Horticultural Society 建议在草本多年生植物周围铺 5–7 cm 厚的覆盖物，并远离茎部和根冠，以防止湿气引起腐烂。
ANSI A300 —— 树木深度与火山防护
ANSI A300-2023 —— Tree Care Operations: Mulching 是树艺师执行的美国国家标准。它专门针对树木铺料，比一般观赏指南更保守：
- § 4.2.1 深度：2–4 inches 有机覆盖物，3 inches 典型。
- § 4.2.2 渐变：距树干 6 inches 内减到 1 inch。
- § 4.2.3 缓冲：2–3 inches 裸土直接接触树皮 —— 任何时候覆盖物都不能碰树皮。
- § 4.2.4 范围：在场地条件允许时覆盖整个根系区到滴水线。
ANSI A300-2023规定：树木周围根区上方有机覆盖物深度不得超过 10 cm，应在树干处收薄到 2.5 cm，并在树皮周围留 5–8 cm 干燥缓冲带。
游乐场深度 —— ASTM F1292 与 CPSC 325
Required depth is product-specific. Match the equipment fall height to the exact surfacing system's current ASTM F1292 critical-fall-height report, then use its tested installation and maintenance depth.

The 2025 CPSC handbook includes non-CCA wood mulch and wood chips as loose-fill options when the installed surface is impact-tested as required. EWF should comply with ASTM F2075; loose-fill rubber should comply with ASTM F3012. A material name alone does not establish ASTM F1292 performance.

体积公式表示按输入深度铺设的材料层。有机覆盖物可能分解、压实或移动，但程度和时间取决于产品、场地、气候、搬运和维护。加料前应测量现有层，可选余量只作为具体项目的规划余量。
